BANK South Pacific Kokopo branch on Monday opened a new automated teller machine (ATM) in Warongoi, East New Britain.
This brings the number of ATMs in the province to 11, of which four are installed at BSP Rabaul branch.
At present, BSP has 226 ATMs nationwide.
Speaking at the opening of the new ATM at Warongoi Properties premises, BSP Kokopo branch manager Albert Burua said it was all about bringing BSP services closer to the rural people, who often spent a lot on PMV fares to get to Kokopo for BSP services.
He said this ATM would not only serve people in Warongoi but also those in communities such as Sinivit, Sikut and Pomio.
Burua said BSP Kokopo was expecting to open four new ATMs by the end of this month to bring the number of ATMs at Kokopo branch to 15.
The new ATMs will be installed at the new Kokopo market, at Tokubar Papindo and at Talina Agmark.
“Please look after the machine as it is here to serve you,” Burua urged the people who gathered at the ATM’s launching.
He urged them to open bank accounts with BSP for its various products.
Warongoi Properties Ltd chairman Sinai Brown said Warongoi Properties was a family business helping to facilitate BSP services.
“It is not the Brown’s business … we are only facilitating BSP services to bring in services to the people,” he said.
ENB Deputy Governor Boniface Setavo praised BSP for thinking “rural”, adding it was also important for the rural people to be educated on how to use the machine and other BSP services.
He said it was also very important for them to learn how to budget their money.
