A CONCERNED parent has supported teachers at Kerevat National High School for investigations into the misuse of K2 million government funding earmarked for renovations of the rundown infrastructure in East New Britain.
The parent, who does not want to be named, said he was concerned that investigations had not been carried out into the government funding.
The parent claimed his findings had revealed that the fund was initially parked with the Gazelle Restoration Authority but it was moved to the school’s board of governors.
He said the school did not have the capacity to take care of renovations and it should have left the funding
with the authority to evaluate
the project and manage it.
He said the project was tendered in September and there was insufficient documentation of it.
His findings revealed that the consultancy fee was K100,000 with K20,000 given to the project engineer and  K8,000 to the architect.
The remaining K72,000 was unaccounted for.
“The project’s specification was rubbish, only five pages were relevant to the project,” he said.
He claimed the project engineer was a mining engineer and was inexperienced in water and sewerage systems.
“I am very disappointed with the school’s management and
poor renovations done as it has again resulted in the closure of the school,” he said.
