BETTER quality education for the children of Papua New Guinea can only be achieved through teamwork governed by a master plan, Education Minister Joseph Yopyyopy says.
Yopyyopy, who is also Wosera-Gawi MP, was speaking at the launch of the Education Department’s corporate plan (2019-2021) which was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Davis Steven in Port Moresby yesterday.
He said the corporate plan was important as it set out the department’s pathway for achieving its goals over the next three years.
“All our goals must lead to relevant quality education for our children,” Yopyyopy said.
“We are the ones responsible for education services in the country. The decisions that we make and the targets that we set at the department level must flow down to our students, teachers, head teachers, principals and managers in all institutions.”
He said the corporate plan was the department’s master plan and if implemented would take education forward and ensure the current and future generations of students benefited.
In the implementation of the plan he said: “The focus must be on relevant quality education programmes and strategies that will assist every Papua New Guinean to be competitive and actively participate in nation building through meaningful engagement in formal and informal employment.”
Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra said the corporate plan was vital as the department’s practice, divisional priorities would be derived from it.
He said the plan set the required actions, identified the available resources and was the blueprint to deliver the aims and objectives of the department.
“It will help us continue to monitor our resources, identify opportunities and control our internal systems to ensure that we are delivering quality education.”
