Being independent

Letters

THE British Queen (Papua New Guinea’s Queen!) has decided to stop the British Parliament debating the decision to leave the European Union on two months’ time.
This is the most drastic decision made in the United Kingdom for almost half a century – yet Parliament will not be allowed to debate it.
Papua New Guinea too much venerates the British cultural invasion. We give out knighthoods and membership of the Order of the British Empire to our citizens.
We give out the Imperial Service Order to senior public servants.
We need to think independently to create real independence.
People become Sir and Dame in an alien status system.
We name our National Capital after a British sea captain who had a brief visit to our land many years ago.
A principal mountain range is named after a German Prime Minister, Bismark.
The history of Bismark shows his constant record of initiating wars and oppressing working people.
Our provinces magically become East New Britain and West New Britain and New Ireland.
Political Independence means almost nothing as we remain culturally colonised.
Australia who colonised us is now proclaiming the need for them to mine coal, and open Pacific island nations to risk of submersion.
However, of course, the Pacific Islanders man follow the stolen slaves (blackbirds) of a 150 years ago who work in the sugar fields in Queensland.
Let us be independent and proud – and celebrate our bottom-up Independence and unrivalled cultural diversity.
