TWO suspects wanted for the shooting of an expatriate at Tamo in Keram local level government area in Angoram, East Sepik, on March 15 have been arrested, provincial police commander Supt Albert Beli says.
“One was caught by Lae police three weeks ago and the other was arrested in Madang last week by Madang police with the help of Wewak police and is now in Wewak,” he said.
Beli said three other suspects were still on the run and police were asking the public’s help to apprehend them.
He said the shooting happened in the morning when three suspects, police believed to be the escapees from Beon jail in Madang, teamed up with two locals from Sori village in Angoram.
“They tied up a security guard and took him to where the expatriate was living. The suspects threw a stone onto the roof and woke up the expatriate and when he opened the door, the suspects fired shots and wounded him in the hands,” he said.
Beli said the suspects fled the scene after the shooting.
He said the expatriate (named) was Australian who owned and operated a licensed alluvial gold mine at Tamo.
Beli said the suspect caught in Madang last week was also wanted by police for extorting K10,000 from the expatriate.
He appealed to the public for help to arrest those that were still on the run.
“They are threats to the public and not only the complainant and victims so people must report their whereabouts so that they can be caught and the law can deal with them.”
