Make Port Moresby a safer place

THE National Capital District Commission (NCDC) needs to look at all aspects of making Port Moresby a safer place to live.
There should be holistic approach than piece meal basis which is not helping both genuine businesses and residents.
One reality is that Port Moresby is infested with vagrants who sell smoke and betel nuts including other Chinese junks, as well as other retail loose food and beverages to make fast side monies.
Drug trade is rife and breeding grounds for criminals who terrorise residents and business owners every day.
When most colourbond fences came off, many residents and business have fallen victims of criminal elements who enter their premises.
Many settlements are mushrooming at the peripheries and posing real threats to those who live at the back streets in all suburbs. The good governor knows too well when he has been residing at Gerehu.
It’s better to manage the behaviour of the residents who choose to come and dwell in the city by making standards for them to comply and live orderly without infringing on the rights of others.
It must be made compulsory for those who choose to reside to have a bar code ID issued to them to state where they reside and their status as a dependent or worker under vagrancy laws.
