FORMER Opposition Leader Don Polye and his Kii Paiyak sub clan assisted in an exchange of pigs and money (called tei in Enga) last Tuesday in Wabag’s Teremanda village, to restore peace in the province.
Hundreds of people gathered at Kii Paiyak’s ceremonial ground Leptenges to witness Polye and his sub clan help fellow Kii sub clan Kiso with K56,000 and 22 pigs to make peace with relatives of two lives lost in a tribal fight over land between Kii and Karl clans.
The deceased were from Anjin clan in Wabag and Lyarop Aupipi clan in Kandep’s Kambia village which is located along the Enga and Southern Highlands border. The first tribal fight in 2017 started because of alleged electoral fraud which saw Polye lose his Kandep Open seat.
The case is still before the Supreme Court.
Months later after the ceasefire, the second fight between the clans erupted due to a land dispute.
Polye, a Kii clansman, commended the Kiso’s for making peace with the clans which helped them during the fight.
The assistance occasion turned into a political rally when people turned out in numbers to interact with the former Kandep Open member.
