Alu says experience is key to imparting knowledge

SP Hunters forward Ila Alu says experience is key to imparting knowledge to rookie members of the Intrust Super Cup side as they look to bounce back from last season.
The 25-year-old said he was ready to lead the squad this season after sitting out for a large chunk of last year due to a broken arm.
Alu, from Central and Chimbu, said the senior players had to prepare the rookies to work as a team to produce positive results on and off the field.
“I’m looking forward to another challenging year ahead after being off the field for a while,” he said at the Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby on Monday.
“We are learning new things under our coach (Matthew Church). We’re gradually getting used to his systems.
“We’re all new to the coach and it’s up to him to decide who plays in what position.
“I’m open to playing in any position.
“But right now, my only focus is on preparing for a gruelling season ahead.
“I’ll be happy with whatever position he assigns me. Regardless of the position I’m assigned, I’ll put my best foot forward for the team.”
Alu said their job was to learn as much as they could and work on their weaknesses.
“We need to build a culture to be on par with other teams and try to learn as many things as we can to bring our game to the next level,” the former Rabaul Gurias forward said.
“I’m hoping that we can bounce back from a disappointing 2019 with the new crop of talent that we have.”
Meanwhile, the Hunters open their campaign away to the Souths Logan Magpies at Davies Park in Brisbane, Australia, on March 15.
