For every action, there is an equal reaction

I REFER to your report “Youth fights for life after being shot” (Feb 14).
The father said the police were irresponsible and unprofessional.
To an extent, this is true as members of our disciplined force need to show more discipline and professionalism.
However, the father and his son must also share part of the blame.
The youth chose to drink and hang out with bad hats.
Let us think before we do something.
Every decision has a consequence, either good or bad.
Why did the father allow his son to be out drinking?
Many parents today do not discipline their children and give them the freedom to drink, chew betelnut, smoke and do other illicit activities.
When trouble comes knocking, they blame everyone else except themselves.
Parents have a legal and moral duty to ensure their children are brought up in a disciplined environment, so they grow to be responsible adults.
The son should have known better than to hang around his peers who are a bad influence.
Youths today succumb to peer pressure and make many choices based on impulse and emotions, rather then logic and what is right.
As Einstein said: “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.”
