Men Against Violence campaign to start

A NATIONAL campaign will be underway next month to encourage men in Papua New Guinea to make a stand against violence in families and communities.
Secretary for the Department of Community Development, Youth and Religion Anna Bais said the hope was to get maximum participation from men and boys of in Port Moresby to march to the Sir John Guise Stadium to signal their support for the campaign.
She said Prime Minister James Marape would address the group and encourage and challenge them to take the lead in ending all forms of violence affecting families and communities in the country.
Bais said this was one of the first activities following the signing of a joint statement by Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion and Wake Goi on behalf of the Government with the Church Development Council to end all forms of violence in families and communities.
“Men and boys will march in white promoting peace, joy, love and respect in their families, communities and the country,” she said.
“The greater collaboration with state and churches is now focused on churches supporting Government in terms of safe homes, counselling and rehabilitation.”
