Fix law, order issues in Hela before debating

Letters

I AM calling on Prime Minister James Marape to go back to Hela and address the law and order situation.
As reported in The National yesterday, it is sickening to know that three groups of people from the same tribe broke into Tari police station and released nine members of their tribe.
The prisoners were alleged murderers and were wanted for a series of serious crimes.
The people in Tari are urging our MP and prime minister to put aside the debate for a while and come to the province and restore law and order issues.
Having huge groups of tribesmen breaking into police station to release wanted criminals is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.
What kind of attitude are this people showing to the country?
These escapees, if not captured, are a treat to the community and businesses during this season.
Please Marape, come to the province and restore the law and order situation.

  • It is very unfortunate and a great shame that people from the PM’s own electorate don’t seem to have any respect for the leader of this beautiful country. They seem to be very stubborn hearted and hardheaded. Tari and Hela province in general will not change if the people themselves are not willing to lay down arms and change their mentality. The most likely way to change people is to drive an agenda and campaign on delivering education to the whole province. Only by establishing schools and having school age children and young adults educated will we see any major changes and reduction of crime in Hela. It is looking like a lost cause already the way that province is going.
