Man, 6-year-old girl injured during attack by youths
A SIX-year-old girl and a man were injured by Wagol youths on Sunday night when they attacked residents of Talio Street, just opposite the Wagol settlement in Madang.
Police have been dealing with a number of cases involving those living in settlements in town, namely Wagol Pikus and Gavstoa settlements.
Provincial police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said settlers who had recently been evicted from Nagada were moving into the town area to reside with their families.
The Nagada settlement is in the last few days of eviction.
He said a six-year-old girl was assaulted with a stone and was at the Modilon General Hospital.
He said the man was badly injured in the attack and was helped by police to seek medical assistance at the hospital.
Supt Rubiang said: “Police officers have been patrolling the area since the incident was reported”.
“Early yesterday morning, police officers called on the leaders from Wagol to identify the suspects and bring them forward to the police.”
Supt Rubiang called on the leaders to identify lawbreakers in the communities and report them to police.
