WEWAK Football Association with the assistance of Sepik Futsal Association has revived soccer in Wewak, East Sepik.
The association was dormant in 2008 under the leadership of former executives.
With the support of MS Wagambie Lawyers and Bits and Pises Automotives, the executives led by the president Jimmy Korei have been running Independence and Christmas tournaments in Wewak since 2009 for the Wewak and East Sepik youths.
After the interest shown by the youths, Michael Steven Wagambie, the principal of the law firm, challenged the interim executives to get Wewak Football Association running this year.
The season proper has kicked off and is progressing well. There are 16 teams participating in two divisions – the men’s premier and division one.
Sepik Futsal Association (SFA) has been given the task to oversee the games for the women’s, U20, U17, U15, U13 and U11 divisions.
The association is working with all three of its local Futsal associations in the district.
The premier division elimination finals will be held tomorrow and Sunday at the field at Simogun Parade.
Soccer followers are urged to go along and support their teams.
