MADANG Chamber of Commerce and Industry says the road system in both Madang urban and rural needs urgent attention to spur economic development.
Chamber president Stotick Kamya said poor infrastructure was affecting everyone including service providers, local farmers and public users.
Major stakeholders in the province have raised the issue with provincial authorities.
However, nothing has been done to repair the roads.
Lack of needed funding to keep the road in top condition has been the basic problem, Kamya said.
He estimates that more than K69 million would needed to repair the main road leading into town.
Because of bad roads, farmers in the north coast area are having difficulty bringing their copra to town.
“The main road leading into town is full of potholes and is also giving service providers a hard time to do their business.
“Madang needs good road network as it has huge potential for development,” Kamya said
