Ivuyos star in tennis open

THE Port Moresby Tennis Club came alive over the long weekend by hosting the annual Lae Biscuit Open. 
It truly was a day to remember for the Ivuyo family as they made a clean sweep of the top awards.  
Lavu Ivuyo teamed up with his brother Tawa where they fought back from behind to beat Kwalam Apisah and Eddie Mera in the A grade doubles 7-5,7-5 in a tense match in both sets to win. 
Kwalam showed the youngsters that he still had the skills and tenacity to play top level tennis as he matched the Ivuyo brothers to the end. 
In the A grade singles, Lavu beat a fatigue Tawa  in a gruelling semi-final 6-1, 6-1. Tawa played an earlier in the day which lasted for more than three hours against Tony Astorga.
In the B-Grade, rising star and junior women’s standout Omega Ivuyo beat Steven Cheung 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to win the singles event.
In the doubles event the father and daughter Francis and Elizabeth Hyun outlasted Robert Fernandez and Ronald Rebucas 6-7,6-1,6-2.
The C-grade was again dominated by talented national junior Kavora Heni, who won the singles and doubles events. 
In the singles he beat Lavau Walu 6-2,6-2 and in the doubles, he teamed up with Dennis Terra to beat Jeffrey Barroga and Oscar Gaboy 6-1,6-1.
