A MAN who pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm will be sentenced by the National Court in Waigani on Sept 2.
Justice George Manuhu confirmed Stanley Makawa’s plea and also heard his plea for mercy.
Makawa, who is from Western Highlands, said he was of good character until the fight on July 6, 2019.
“I am first time offender,” he said.
“I have also changed my ways during my two years of remand in Bomana prison.
“My family has been suffering in my absence as I am the sole breadwinner.”
Makawa said that the victim was known to him and that he was only retaliating after the victim came and fought with him.
Makawa remains in custody.
On July 6, 2019, at Erima’s Wildlife in Port Moresby, Makawa and the victim got into a fight.
During the fight, Makawa stabbed the victim with a screwdriver under the victim’s armpit.
The victim called out for help and Makawa fled.
The victim’s relatives then sent him to the Port Moresby General Hospital.
