MORE than 60 priests, including bishops from Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands, held a week-long retreat beginning Sunday at the Holy Spirit Seminary at Bomana, Port Moresby.
The retreat was organised by the Catholic Bishops of PNG and SI through the Catholic Bishop Conference Secretariat (CBC) to observe the declaration of last June to this June as the “Year of priests” by Pope Benedict XVI and reflect on past year and make resolutions.
According to archbishop of Bereina diocese, Bishop Rochus Tatamai and general-secretary for CBC Fr Rolando Santos, this is the first time priests from all over PNG and SI have gathered together for the occasion.
They are also celebrating the 150th anniversary of the patron saint for priests St John Vianney.
The theme for the retreat is “Faithfulness to Christ, faithfulness to the priesthood”.
The retreat ends this Saturday with the Eucharistic celebration at Bomana.
