Expatriate charged with sexual assault

A TWENTY eight-year-old Filipino expatriate was charged at the Waigani Committal Court on Wednesday for sexually assaulting a 36-year-old man on Christmas Eve.
While the charges were read out to him in the company of his lawyer, Ferdinand Joaquin from Manila heard detailed accounts while magistrate Fred Tomo explained the court’s role to determine whether there was enough evidence to commit the matter to the National Court.
According to the facts, Joaquin confronted David Timbu from Yaro village in Pangia, Southern Highlands, at a bus stop outside the accuser’s office between 8am and 9am.
Joaquin invited Mr Timbu into his office, gave his telephone number and asked him to call later.
Mr Timbu contacted Joaquin and both met at a  shopping centre in Boroko at 2pm and went to a night club in Gordon.
After drinking until early evening, the pair   adjourned to Joaquin’s house in Boroko where the alleged sexual assault occurred.
According to the court documents, Joaquin admitted taking Mr Timbu to his house but denied the descriptive sexual assault claims.
Mr Timbu claimed he was very drunk and was violated by the younger expatriate in the bathroom where he was taking a shower.
