Kalibobo sports fest a success

THE annual Kalibobo district sports carnival played throughout the Easter long weekend where raw talents are identified must be backed by the Madang provincial government,an official says.
The call was made by games chairman John Gringo, who was happy with the turnout of participants from the six districts.
Gringo said the highlight of this year’s games was the involvement of all of the six districts, including the remote Ranara and Tauta, in the Naho Rawa area of Rai Coast and parts of Middle Ramu.
All winning teams received K3,000 except for soccer, which got K4,000.
Second and third place getters collected K1,500 and K750 respectively.
Champions for the men’s basketball were Urban 1, with Team Bogia and Urban 2 following.
The junior women’s team in Urban 1, known as Small Francs,  bagged the prize money and trophy in the women’s game, with Watabag and Team Bogia tagging behind.
Sumgilbar 1 won the volleyball title, with Wali Souths and Dabasa coming second and third in the women’s game.  In the mens’ volleyball, Urban 1 prevailed over a strong field. Ramu was awarded the fair play trophy. In darts Karkar 3 bagged the K3,000.
Ela Motors sponsored the major cups and trophies. The games are a lead-up to the Momase national championships where other codes such as kickboxing, karate and athletics will be included.
