MBC won the “bemobile Super 3s basketball challenge and walked away with mobile phones donated by major sponsors bemobile Limited on Sunday, at the Era Kone basketball courts.
The shorter version of basketball competition which ran for three Sundays gave the opportunity for 17 teams to participate and enhance their skills.
Lomus finished second and walked away with some consolation prizes, while darkhorses Late Bus finished third in the three-week challenge.
The three-on-three challenge finals also saw new teams Sapeas and Late Bus making their presence felt, signifying the interest of the shorter version of the game.
Competition coordinator Lawrance Lahari said due to growing interest shown by teams, the competition would be scheduled for June and July school holiday period.
The challenge was organised to raise funds to send the PNG men’s development team to participate in the Far North Queensland tournament, set for Jan 22-24.
The development squad would be competing against champion clubs from North Queensland.
Lahari is still appealing to business houses and corporate organisations for financial support to send the squad to Cairns for the upcoming event.
He said the squad was in  urgent need of funds to travel to Cairns.
He added that those businesses intending to assist could do so by depositing the amount into BFPNG Levi trust account at BSP Port Moresby branch on account 1001199801.
The squad is expected to leave PNG on Jan 20.
