Three in court on rape charge

 THREE men appeared in the Kokopo district court this week charged with raping a woman at Malaguna in the Rabaul district.

James Sirip, 20, from Malaguna village, Jacob Wesley, 20, from Malaguna No. 3 village and Tommy Koi, 22 of Malaguna No. 1 village appeared briefly and the case was adjourned to a later date.

East New Britain provincial police commander Supt Anthony Wagambie Jr said yesterday that police raided places and a number of  potential suspects were hauled in.

He said 18 people in custody initially after the raid and he praised his men’s efforts. 

“Police must be seen to be making an effort in attending to such serious crimes,” he said.
