USINO-Bundi MP Anton Yagama has commended the national government and the Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) for delivering important services to his people.

The MRA, on behalf of the national government, facilitated and funded the development of various projects in Usino-Bundi, using public investment programme (PIP) funding allocated for development projects under the Ramu nickel mining project PIP.

These projects are eight police residential houses in the Walium and Usino police posts and Banu-Danagari and Banu-Brahman roads.

The projects cost more than K3 million. Yagama’s office co-funded the Banu-Brahman road with K2 million.

The MRA facilitated the draw-down of funding from the national government, engaged a contractor through the Central Supply and Tenders Board (CSTB) to implement the projects and managed the projects to ensure the contractor delivered.

Yagama said his people were happy because they were able to travel to town easily, something they could not do so since independence.

“The people can see that there is new life being breathed into the area with the national government’s assistance,” he said.

MRA acting managing director Philip Samar said the government was fulfilling its commitment to the people of the project areas and Madang  as agreed to under the Ramu nickel mining project memorandum of agreement.

He added that it was satisfying to see people’s livelihoods being improved through the delivery of the projects.
