PLANS are under way for an education foundation scheme to be established in East New Britain this year, according to the East New Britain Today (ENBT) group.

ENBT is headed by Apisai Jubillee and the former president of the Sinivit local level government Levi Orong.

The group said the scheme aimed at encouraging students in the province to take education and other areas seriously, apart from sports.

“The EFS is most likely to have a trial run after the local level government president elections in July.

“The scheme will aim at conducting various educational competitions at different levels of education.

“Winner schools will walk away with medals and trophies,” ENBT said in a statement.

It said the scheme would include inter-school reading and comprehension carnivals, provincial upper school debates, mathematics competition, arts carnival and leadership seminars where students get a chance to work closely with leading role models in the province.

ENBT added that it was ready to start the scheme on a trial run and urged the provincial administration and other stakeholders to support the initiative.

“Our students, our children need this as a motivation for them to reach higher for their stars, and contribute back to the province in a positive way,” it said.

“This is a way forward as we invest in our human resource as young as possible.

“Other motivational initiations for students such as fares and conventions featuring local inventions and innovations in other fields such as science and agriculture will fall in place.”
