THE Port Moresby Cricket Association can now have greater confidence in running a successful season and plan better things for the game in the city.

Thanks to a K50,000 assistance from the International Training Institute (ITI).

“To have that kind of money for three years will do wonders,” association president John Vada said during the sponsorship announcement last Friday.

ITI has been the major sponsor of Port Moresby Cricket Association for the past four years providing up to K25,000 annually over the period. This year the sponsorship has been doubled and will be maintained over the next two years.

ITI managing director Kumaran Sentheyval said it was ITI’s desire to help the greatest number of people possible, especially youths, through its sponsorships and cricket in the city involved about 800 players.

That number could grow to 1,000 in the next few years, and that is why ITI want to back Port Moresby Cricket Association, ensuring that young people realise their dreams and live meaningful lives.

Besides backing the administration of the game, the training institution began last year to provide five scholarships for cricket players or supporters who met its minimum entry requirements to attend any of its training courses at certificate or diploma level.

In thanking ITI, Vada gave an assurance that there would be accountability in the use of the sponsorship money which would be both in cash and equipment.

A former staff of ITI, Vada had approached his former employer for assistance in his role as an executive of the cricket association and the result was a four-year sponsorship which will now continue for the next three seasons.

Port Moresby cricket association provides almost all the players in the national cricket team.
