Students complete HIV training

SEVENTY-five students on holiday in Jiwaka last Friday completed a week of training on drugs and HIV/AIDS.

The training, which was conducted at the Ambang Nazarene Church in North Waghi, was funded by the Western Highlands Provincial AIDS Council.

The objective of the workshop was to help students keep away from drugs and engaging in unsafe sex.

It encouraged them to set goals and work hard in school to make their dreams become reality.

Pr Peter Wai and Joh Kosam facilitated the week-long training. 

Provincial AIDS Council technical officer Pr Apollos Yimbak told the students they should have a vision in life and work hard to achieve it.

“Nothing comes easy in life, you must sweat your guts out to reap the benefits later and enjoy the good life,” Yimbak said.

He told the students they must become role models in their schools and say no to drugs and refrain from engaging in early sex.

He told them drugs and HIV/AIDS had already claimed thousands of lives in Papua New Guinea.

“You have a long life to live and contribute to the development of the province and country therefore, you must say no to drugs and HIV/AIDS. Avoid peer groups that take in illegal substances or engage in sexual activities,” Yimbak said.
