FRANCIS Marus has thanked Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for appointing former Police Commissioner Garry Baki as the director-general of the National Intelligence Organisation.

The National Executive Council appointed Baki last week.

Marus, the former deputy Speaker and Talasia MP, said the appointment of Baki, who is from Talasia, showed the Government treated everyone fairly despite political differences and affiliations.

He said Baki was a qualified person who made his way through the ranks in the police force to become the commissioner.

“His appoint is welcome news for the country, the people of Talasia and West New Britain,” he said.

“The Government has appointed him on merit and, on behalf of the people of Talasia, I would like to thank the government of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill for this appointment.

“This is the way forward for this nation. We need to look around the country and appoint people on merit so we achieve better results in the public service.”
