PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill arrived in China yesterday afternoon to a red carpet welcome by senior government dignitaries.

His visit to China is specifically to attend and address the 2nd China-Pacific Islands Countries Forum today.

O’Neill (pictured) will witness the signing of an agreement on economic and technical cooperation between the two countries, with detailed references to the grant aid and concessional loan contract for PNG’s electronic identification card system project.

He will meet with the Vice Minister Wang Yang to discuss and strengthen bilateral relations.

“I will meet with senior officials of the Chinese Exim Bank and the Minister for commerce, Gao Hucheng, before attending a reception hosted by vice-premier Yang,” O’Neill said.

He said this was the opportunity to meet with these executives and discuss matters of significance for both our country.

He will attend the forum at the Guangzhou Exhibition Centre and officiate. After the ceremony, O’Neill will deliver his country statement.

He returns over the weekend.
