Sinasina primary schools receive major funding

SIX primary schools in Sinasina, Simbu province received more than half a million kina to build infrastructure last week.
AusAID provided the funding through its basic education development programme (BEDP) initiative managed by Coffey International Development.
BEDP team leader Paul Constable and senior programme advisers were at Dumun Primary School for the presentation of the package.
The schools would  receive a double classroom and a teachers house each at the cost of K86,000 per school.
The recipients were Dumun, Giu, Koge, Nebare, Ku and Dinima primary schools.
Simbu Governor Fr John Garia, Simbu deputy provincial administrator Yayonga Bal and education adviser Essy Walkaima attended the event.
“We should collaborate to get the classrooms and teachers houses built so the children receive a decent education.
“Any of these schools that become the first to implement the project will receive a bonus,” Mr Constable said.
Fr Garia thanked AusAID for giving Simbu province the opportunity to benefit from BEDP, ahead of other provinces.
He urged the people of Sinasina to look after the infrastructure which will facilitate quality education to be delivered to the children.
He said Simbu education division had performed well last year with Grade 12 students national exam results ranked fifth in the country.
Fr Garia said Simbu ranked third among the top five provinces in efficient service deliveries with transport and accountability.
“The days of nepotism, corruption and petty politics are over, today we focus on equitable distribution of services to all corners of the province,” he said.
