JICA -PNG alumni launched

JAPAN International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-Papua New Guinea alumni association was launched last Friday in Port Moresby with the message of capacity building of government institutions by way of people to people approach.
JICA resident representative Kyoji Mizutani said JICA-PNG alumni association would seek to develop skills and foster international relationship between the two countries.
Mr Mizutani said such an arrangement would further enhance JICA’s technical contribution in promoting human development by way of training future PNG leaders who would play an important role in sustainable development.
JICA administration and development manager for PNG office Tony Ombo highlighted the purpose of the alumni association as one of initiating and maintaining contact and dialogue between JICA training ex-participants and JICA-PNG office.
Mr Ombo said the registered members of the alumni would have the opportunity to exchange views for JICA’s country strategy assistance as well as share valuable information across various government departments and agencies where they were serving.
The alumni association secretariat members were representatives from the Health, Lands and Physical Planning, Works, National Planning and Management, Finance and Treasury, Community Development and Education departments, National Forest Authority, Investment Promotion Authority and National Disaster and Emergency Service.
