Climate change workshop underway

National, Normal

TWO Papua New Guinean reporters have been selected to attend a Climate Change Media Training workshop in Apia, Samoa this week.
The National’s Patrick Talu and Ahimsa Kibikibi from the National Broadcasting Corporation have been selected among other reporters from the Pacific Islands countries.
In line with the Pacific Islands Framework for action on climate change, the workshop is a joint collaboration between the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional environment programme (SPREP) and the Government of Canada.
SPREP sees climate change as one of the most serious threats to the sustainable development of Pacific Island communities and nations.
Although climate change affects the entire world, the Pacific Islands region is amongst the most vulnerable.
The media training workshop aims to help improve understanding among Pacific islands media of the climate change issues that face the region.
It is expected that a solid understanding will encourage regular reporting on climate change issues and in turn bring about a well informed and engaged information.
The workshops begins today  and ends next Monday.
