Super 6s comp gets underway in POM cricket

PORT Moresby cricket’s latest adaptation of spectator-friendly cricket, the super sixes concept, began in earnest on Sunday with clubs fielding teams in the U16, U19 and A reserve divisions.
In a format that rivals rugby sevens in its speed and shortness the super 6s tournament certainly delivered in the A reserve division with big hitting Raukele all-rounder Kila Pala thrashing an unbeaten 51 runs while other batsmen, who dominated play were, Richard Rwali (Kempa) 43no, Mark Solien (Steamships) 47 and Henao Geita (Kilakila) 49no were the major highlights with the bat, while the opening bowler for Coasters Vagi Toua took 4/7 and 2/8 in the matches he played.
Coasters came out on top Pool A of the A reserve division winning three from three and KilaKila, Raukele and Kempa won two of their three games.
The round robin matches in each division will be completed next Sunday, followed by the finals to determine the best team in each division.
The team that wins each division will get five points, four points to the runners-up, three points to third place and two points for fourth place.
The club with the most championship points by the end of all the six divisions will be the POM Cricket Super 6 champions and will receive the Super 6 trophy, K2,000 and a K7,000 kit of cricket equipment.
