Abel: Govt overreacting with Covid-19

ALOTAU MP Charles Abel believes that the Government is overreacting in addressing the Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country.
“We are shutting down companies without really assessing the real impact of the Covid-19 on the community,” he said.
“In Milne Bay, people are not bothered about the Covid-19 and I’m sure it’s everywhere throughout the country. We really need to assess how the Covid-19 is having an impact on the people before coming up with restrictions, forcing people to get vaccination or be sacked.
“We blame the Covid-19 on the sluggish national economy. Sometimes, I look at it from a Papua New Guinea point of view and wondering if we are overreacting and causing our people to be put out of jobs, shutting down industries and bringing all these restrictions.
“Yes, we are trying to be responsible in our response to the Covid-19.
“But after one or two years, we must see its actual effect and if we are overreacting to it.
“Are we making ourselves suffer unnecessarily?”
