CENTRAL people have been urged to access loans from MiBank in Port Moresby to start small to medium enterprises.

Governor Kila Haoda said the provincial government had already injected K1 million into the bank under the Provincial Support Improvement Programme.

Haoda and MiBank Central Waigani branch manager Michael Aniyeli presented loan facilities to the first successful applicant at the bank’s premises on Sept 1.

Samoa Kavo from Gaire village was the first customer to get a 40-horse powered outboard motor, fishing nets and a generator.

Haoda said: “I don’t want people to come to my office in Konedobu and ask for free handouts of cash.

“The cash is available in the bank now so people must go to the bank and get money to start businesses to enhance their lives.”

Kavo was commended for taking the initiative to access K12,900 from the bank to buy new facilities to replace the old ones.

Provincial administrator Gei Raga said people must stop the free hand out mentality and make use of the loan facility.

“MiBank is the place to look for money, not Konedobu,” he said.

He reiterated that the Government was investing in small and medium enterprises sector so people should start doing business.

Aniyeli commended Haoda and his administration for helping rural people to become business people.

He said MiBank would continue to help Central people to obtain loans.
