A 27-YEAR-OLD man was committed to stand trial for allegedly killing a man for labelling him as a woman in Port Moresby about a year ago.
Committal Court Magistrate Paul Puri Nii yesterday said the police evidence was acceptable to make a serious case against Konsy Teparo, from the Eastern Highlands’ Lufa, for murder.
“Teparo had an argument after the victim labelled him a woman,” he said.
“Teparao (allegedly) punched the victim who fell and hit his head on the concrete.”
The incident allegedly occurred on Dec 6, 2020, in Badili’s Gorobe.
The victim was rushed to Port Moresby General Hospital’s emergency ward but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Magistrate Nii said he was satisfied that Teparo fought with the victim when he was labelled a woman.
“The evidence showed Teparo was angry for being called a woman and punched him.”
Magistrate Nii said Teparo argued that the police evidence was insufficient as the victim was drunk and fell when he punched him and that the medical report did not meet the requirements of evidence under the Evidence Act.
The matter returns for Teparo’s declaration statement on April 26.
