Accused of illegally transfering title

A WAIGANI Committal Court has committed a 46-year-old man to stand trial in the National Court for allegedly transferring the ownership of a property through forgery.
Magistrate Paul Puri Nii told Gibson Felix, from Hedemari village, Koroba-Lake Kopiago in Hela, that there was sufficient evidence for him to stand trial.
“I’m only assessing the face of this case based on police evidence, you can defend yourself in the National Court,” he told Felix.
The defence submission argued there was no evidence that Felix was the author of the statutory declaration form.
Felix also denied that he had signed the statutory declaration but argued that he had bought the property from late Aiba Sawabi.
He said that buying the property and signing a statutory declaration were two different things altogether.
However, there was a statutory declaration signed by Felix and Sawabi on Feb 4, 2004, stating that Felix would pay a rent of K250 every fortnight to Sawabi for using his property.
