A 26-YEAR-OLD man who allegedly raped a seven-year-old girl in the 2-Mile Revival Church in Port Moresby on Aug 25 was granted K500 bail.
Waigani Committal Court magistrate Ernest Wilmot released Jackson Kule, from Lufa’s Hila Village, Eastern Highlands, on bail on Friday.
The defence lawyer told the court that Kule, who is unemployed, needed to support his young family of three children, all below aged 12, and his wife who was also unemployed.
The lawyer then requested for a K200 bail.
However, police prosecutor Sgt Christian Iga objected that the requested bail amount was too low for the alleged offence.
“We want bail to be increased to K500 since the matter involves a victim who is a minor, and the serious nature of the charge,” Iga said.
Wilmot postponed hearing to Nov 7.

  • So was he seduced by the 7 year old girl for his family to be taken into consideration? What about her family? What an injustice!!

  • there should be no bail for such inhumane crimes, the accused did not think of his family members when he committed the act.. THIS IS TOTALLY UNFAIR

  • Two-Hundred or Five-Hundred Kina bail is not enough the court should impose a K1000 bail for such an offence. The man is married and have children with the same age as the accused, how could he done such an insane act like this?

  • He shouldn’t be on bail. Let him serve his time, he didn’t think of his children when he molested someones daughter. Lets not be lenient on molesters, abusers and rapists, this is why they never stop.
