A 35-YEAR-OLD man charged with sexual penetration was granted K500 bail and his case adjourned to March 27.
The man was charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a child under 12 years at Makana settlement at 9-Mile in Port Moresby.
It was alleged that on Jan 25, 2019, the man sexually abused his 13-month-old daughter.
Police files indicated that the victim’s mother had been awarded a scholarship to study in Australia and had left the child with her husband.
While his wife was away, the husband allegedly asked for K500 in an email on Aug 8, 2019, to which she replied that she did not plan to go to the bank that day.
He replied saying, “So silent treatment now? I’ll teach you a few of mine too.”
She flew back to PNG on Aug 18 because she was troubled by the email.
At the airport, she said her child looked pale and weak.
She prepared her daughter for Sunday service and left her in her bedroom.
She was in the bathroom when she heard her husband walk into the bedroom where their daughter was.
She heard her daughter cry out loudly so she rushed out to see what was happening.
The mother cleaned her daughter and noticed she had developed redness around her private parts.
She took her daughter to the Family Support Centre at 3-Mile for a medical examination where the nurse confirmed the child had been allegedly sexually abused.
The matter was reported and he was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a minor under section 229A (3) and detained at Boroko Police Station.
