ACP slams union over call to close Boroko station

ASSISTANT police commissioner in charge of logistics Tony Duwang has slammed the Police Union calling for the closure of the Boroko Police Station in the National Capital District.
Duwang, in a statement yesterday, said union executives failed to consult his office before going to the press.
“Had they consulted my office, they would have found out that we have funds appropriated in the budget under the police infrastructure programme earmarked for the police station. Rehabilitation and work is expected to start early next month,” he said.
Duwang said a report on page 3 of yesterday’s The National was unnecessary and immature on the part of the Police Union executives.
“If they had consulted my office, I would have shown them the documents pertaining to the state and conditions of the Boroko police station and what the RPNGC management is doing to rehabilitate it.”
He said inspection and scoping were done in February and the project was going through documentation stages before work started.
Duwang said funds would be expended on general repairs and paintwork, acquisition of new furniture and complete maintenance inside the main station, which would include the replacement of old water and sewerage pipes and proper lighting and air ventilation.
“Rehabilitation included the upgrade of electricity voltage in the station. At present the power supply was inadequate and this resulted in constant outages,” he said.
Duwang met with NCD Met Supt Perou N’dranou on the issues and informed him of the repair plans.
Duwang called upon the Police Union executives to exercise maturity and common sense when confronting issues affecting the constabulary.
