THE Bank South Pacific’s financial inclusion activities has progressed well with about 70,000 new accounts opened up to the end of June, according to chief executive officer Robin Fleming.
He said this included almost 30,000 mobile banking customers.
“The take-up rates of mobile banking in particular is pleasing as it affords our customers the opportunity to have access to banking services without having to come into a branch,” he said. Fleming told The National earlier this year that the bank’s USSD (unstructured supplementary service data) mobile banking was the leading digital channel with more than six million transactions per month compared to around 900,000 transactions per month at the branches.
He said 89 per cent of the total banking transaction last year was via the bank’s digital service such as mobile banking, the BSP app and internet banking.
