CHINESE acupuncturist Dr Zhao Hongxia from the 13th China Medical Team is performing acupuncture treatment to patients suffering from chronic body pains or other conditions at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
Zhao said acupuncture is an ancient Chinese-medicine based approach to treating a variety of conditions by triggering specific points on the skin with needles.
“This treatment heals chronic pains (often, in the neck, back, knees and head), allergies, anxiety and depression, osteoarthritis, hypertension, insomnia, menstrual cramps, migraines, stroke etc,” Zhao explained.
Zhao performed acupuncture treatment on 46-year-old Jacob Kitao last month after he had been diagnosed with fibromyalgia syndrome, an unusual muscular pain.
Zhao further stated that Kitao had suffered from a chronic back pains for six years that affected his life, causing him to lose his job.
However, that did stop Kitao to further seek other medical options based on his condition.
Finally, Kitao found relief for the first time in the hands of the expert.
Kitao was amazed with the results of the Chinese traditional medicine, expressing his gratitude towards Zhao and the team.
Team leader and urologists Dr Feng Wubing added that traditional Chinese medicine gradually won the hearts of people in PNG over the last 20 years.
“Traditional Chinese medicine has been practiced for hundreds of years and is able to treat a wide range of illnesses and aliments,” Feng said.
