SECONDARY and primary schools in Bulolo district, Morobe, have been advised not to charge students more than K100 as project fees.
Bulolo district administrator Tai Gwambelek warned school administrations that no principal or headteacher was allowed to collect more than K100 from any student.
“It will be against a resolution of a head teachers’ meeting held at Buang in December,” Gwambelek said.
At the meeting, head teachers approved that each student from the two secondary schools – Grace and Baiyune – were to pay K100, all primary schools to charge K50 and elementary charge K20 per student.
Gwambelek warned the schools administrations after receiving complaints from parents and students that some schools were charging students more than the agreed amounts.
“Apart from the free education monies allocated already to school accounts throughout the country by the government, the Bulolo joint district planning committee allocated K20,000 each to all schools in the district,” he said.
“The monies allocated were from the 2011 RESI programme. That means all schools will benefit twice or three times more from the government to cater for their administrative affairs. Therefore schools are warned not to rip off parents.”
