THE PNG Amateur Boxing Union is calling on all its affiliates to contact the union in preparation for the upcoming national boxing championships in Arawa, Autonomous Region of Bougainville, later this year.
PNGABU tournament director Dick Larry gave the notice to their affiliated associations to contact the union office as soon as possible.
He was concerned especially about Wewak, Goroka, Kainantu and Chimbu saying they needed to make contact with him to register or pick up their registration forms.
Larry said boxing associations wishing to take part should contact him on email: [email protected] or contact him on 76526305.
Larry said boxing had missed out on Commonwealth Youth Games in Bahamas but would be out in full force at the Mini Pacific Games in Vanuatu and hopefully the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Australia, next year.
“To qualify for the Commonwealth Games, PNG boxing must lift its standard to remain competitive with other countries in the Commonwealth family,” he said.
Larry said the national boxing championships in Arawa was important and he urged all boxing affiliates to send their senior and elite boxers.
“There will be no allowance for junior fighters as they can prepare them for the PNG Games in Kimbe,” he said.
Larry said after the Arawa championships, the PNGABU would select a strong team for the Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
