AN Aussie Rules aid programme in Australia has provided new sets of jerseys for teams and match officials including balls and equipment for clubs in Lae.
AFL PNG, through AFL South Pacific Footy Aid programme, presented the sporting gears to both men’s and women’s teams including uniforms for umpires and match officials on Friday.
Lae AFL president Alang Isaac said teams that registered last month to compete in this year’s competition include Swans, Rookies, Country Bombers, Crows, Suns, Jitas, 12A Dogs and Lewe.
“Thanks to AFL PNG through AFL South Pacific Footy Aid programme and the ADF Sports Cell, we have received donations of jerseys, football, umpire uniforms and equipment,” Isaac said.
“Also (thank you) to the community clubs and programmes in Australia who continue to donate.
“This is an exciting time for all AFL enthusiasts to showcase their talents as this new association will pave the way for exciting opportunities, improved governance, and a heightened fan experience.
“The code will also foster unity and innovation, as AFL Lae Association aims to play a pivotal role in the sustainable growth and success of Australian Rules football in the country.”
Isaac said her exciting group of young leaders who were game officials and committees were capable of running the competitions.
“There will be enhanced coordination, collaboration, and support across all stakeholders of the game.”
