AFLPNG names intakes for academy

AFLPNG has released the final list for the 2012 academy intake at De La Salle Bomana with majority of the boys from Binatangs squad that played in the AFL Youth Cup.
The PNG Binatangs ended the 2011 Youth AFL Oceania Cup tournament in 3rd place after thrashing Tonga by 14 goals in Suva, Fiji in December last year.
PNG 15.7-97 defeated Tonga 1.1-7.
The intakes for this year are dominated by players from Port Moresby and Mt Hagen who have eight each while Kimbe contributed six, Lae three and Kavieng one.
The 2012 AFLPNG Academy intakes are: Jason So-ong (Mt Hagen), Freddy Kalandi (Mt Hagen), Ori Nilmo (Kimbe), Michael Macca (Port Moresby), Francis Junior Giau (Kimbe), Harry Kambuou (Lae), Ezra Gotuno (Mt Hagen), Ezra Kautu (Kimbe), Theo Gavuri (Kimbe), Bruno Arnold (Mt Hagen), Issac Bakani (Kimbe), Albert Gabi (Lae), Eddie Meli (Port Moresby), Jacky Tony (Mt Hagen), Nane Rai (Lae), Mcqueen Malt (Mt Hagen), Kennedy Lavatu (Kimbe), Luke Severe (Port Moresby), Fitzgerald Jee (Kavieng), Ben Tirang (Mt Hagen), Hosea Wartovo (Port Moresby), Eddie Kusup (Port Moresby), Daniel Gitua (Port Moresby), Carter Siwee (Port Moresby), Ben Kias (Mt Hagen), Daniel Llyiod (Port Moresby).
Five of the players from the 2012 intake who were part of the Binatangs squad that finished were selected in the Under 18 South Pacific team that lost to the Flying Boomerangs.
The boys were Jason So-ong, Freddy Kalandi, Mcqueen Malt, Kenndy Lavatu and Fitzgerald Jee.
AFLPNG games development Walter Yangomina said currently the players had been offered positions in the academy.
“It is up to them to confirm and accept the offer or not.
“Just to make it clear as some may choose not to go to the academy and stay on at their school,” Yangomina said.
