Agarobe Nines rugby league tournament launched with K20,000 sponsorship

CENTRAL Dabaris, in partnership with Goodman Fielder International, launched the second Agarobe Nines rugby league tournament in Port Moresby yesterday with a total of 53 teams across two divisions.
The two-day tournament, which kicks off on Monday at Sir John Guise Stadium, was given a K20,000 boost from Goodman Fielder with organisers keen on showcasing local talents.
A total off 44 teams were confirmed for the men’s division while only nine for the schools division with all teams in the tournament covering the 12 zones of Central.
Dabaris chief executive Hubert Warupi said the tournament was aimed at developing rural players and boosting local-based programmes.
“We have a lot of talented players in the province and this is one way of identifying them,” he said.
“It helps us to see where rugby league is present in the province.
“So after this, we will see which parts of the province need help.
“We’re thankful for the support and the vision that has been shared by Goodman Fielder for Central.
“It has always been the Dabaris’ dream to come down to the community and get rugby league programmes going at that level in an organised manner.”
Meanwhile, Goodman Fielder retail activation manager Chonginan Moang said the support was part of the company’s reach in assisting clubs develop sports in their area.
“The culture that we want to be a part of is one that is associated with developing future talents of the game,” he said.
“We’re happy to be a part of this tournament and Central as a whole, and we’re looking forward to more events in the future.”
