The Investment Promotion Authority is working in partnership with PNG Customs Services to address issues related trade and border protection of counterfeit goods, an official says.

IPA managing director Ivan Pomalu said the two organisations had partnered to address trading of goods especially those that were entering the PNG market.

“We’ve got a bit of partnership going with Customs where we are working on providing key important information on intellectual property.”

He said: “Some other key matters we talked about include trading of goods. That’s one of the things that we are working closely with Customs under the signed MOU.”

Speaking during 2014 PNG Update at UPNG lecture theatre yesterday, Pomalu said “the main aim of the partnership reached would be for better trade and border protection of counterfeit goods.”

Last year IPA, Internal Revenue Commission and Customs signed a memorandum of understanding to consider sharing relevant client information.

Pomalu said the MoU would enable the three agencies to offer a one stop shop arrangement that would streamline and simplify transactions.
