THE National Catholic Education Services has implemented a monitoring programme to assess the practice of the Catholic faith and implementation of religious philosophy in schools in the highlands.
Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands said, in a statement, that the services carried out the monitoring at the dioceses of Wabag in Enga, Mendi in Southern Highlands, Mt Hagen in Western Highlands, Jiwaka and Kundiawa in Chimbu last week.
The Catholic Education secretary and National Churches Education Council chairman Michael Ova and assistant secretary Fiona Wenama facilitated the monitoring.
“The monitoring was implemented a week after the Catholic education secretaries and coordinators annual conference in Port Moresby,” he said. “The focus was to follow up on the education secretaries and coordinators and observe the strategies they had in place on how best the Catholic identity was promoted in schools in the region and how each school was implementing the religious philosophy.
“We spoke to the different dioceses and even came into contact with a few headmasters, teachers and students.”
