EXXONMobil headquarters in Houston, Texas, USA and Hela, Southern Highlands, are worlds apart but Hela will soon become ExxonMobil’s corporate face of America,” Southern Highlands Governor Anderson Agiru said yesterday.
Mr Agiru thanked ExxonMobil, Santos, Oil Search and Nippon for investing in the LNG project that will transform the economic landscape of Hela and Papua New Guinea.
He said the real challenge now was of inflation, the negative impacts and capacity.
“Southern Highlands and Hela will get K2.2 billion worth of infrastructure projects,” the elated governor added.
Mr Agiru, who spent sleepless nights with his three colleague Hela MPs Tari-Pori MP and Education Minister James Marape, Komo-Magarima MP Francis Potape and Koroba-Lake Kopiago MP John Kekeno said yesterday that he was so excited that he only made a short statement during the signing at Parliament House on Tuesday.
“Southern Highlands and Hela will get K2.2 billion worth of infrastructure projects.
“Hela people were not selfish, they put their country first, there were many issues that the Government has not addressed but they also appreciate that the Government is beginning to address some of the issues and problems of 20 years ago.”
Mr Agiru assured the country and project partners that his people will give 110% support to the PNG LNG.
“Congratulations and PNG has delivered its first LNG project,” Mr Agiru said.
