HELA Governor Anderson Agiru has been urged to push for all impact projects highlighted in the umbrella benefit sharing agreement signed in Kokopo to be completed quickly.

Hides Special Purpose Authority chairman Lemson Mapiria said with the winding down of the LNG project, things should be moved on quickly.

This he said included the Tari Hospital and township, Tari to Komo road, Komo township, Hides, Nokoloi, Tiputipu and Hides 4  growth centres, Koroba Hospital, Nipa township and Magarima township.

“Komo Airport must be handed over to the National Airports Corporation to be developed to international status for long-term investment purposes targeting the Asian region,” he said.

“Time is catching up and these long outstanding commitments need to be sorted out for the good of everybody.”

He blamed the government for paying individual landowners which was causing a lot of problems.

“We still have water and education issues and a high law and order problem,” Mapiria said.

He also said alcohol was a growing problem which police were unable to handle.

“We must have more road-blocks or else our social issues will get out of hand,” he said.

“Even high-powered weapons are building up and anything can happen if disability is caused.”
