SOUTHERN Highlands Governor Anderson Agiru said an investigation would be ordered into the fire that completely destroyed the Koroba district treasury office.
Agiru said while there was no immediate evidence as to the cause of the fire, he was disappointed that a new infrastructure opened only last year has been razed to the ground.
He believed that the fire had destroyed important records.
“I have had two experiences with fires which completely destroyed financial and other records in my time so I am immediately suspicious,” he said.
He said the Southern Highlands headquarters building was burnt to the ground in November 1997 when he had just taken office and was in the process of sorting out the previous administration’s books.
A second fire burnt the provincial treasury in Mendi in 2001 destroying all records just after the Supreme Court had reinstated him as Governor. The court had declared  that the then government had no powers to suspend his or any other provincial government.
